Little Man is Here!!!

Guest Blog by Si H (the daddy).

Little man has finally decided to bless us with his presence.  The last blog that was posted by Megan was that she was still an excellent candidate for a VBAC, after some small signs of progression they decided that induction was going to be necessary to keep the process moving.  Our OB started her on aggressive course of Pitocin to try and kick start active labor after he broke her water yesterday afternoon.

The OB checked Megan and found that at 5pm yesterday afternoon she was dilated to 5 cm and was approximately 80% effaced.

Then we waited, and we waited, the contractions became stronger and stronger, 3 minutes apart, down to 2 minutes apart, Megan decided to opt for the epidural at this point, which immediately eliminated any contraction or labor pains.  This was at 8pm....

The OB came in and checked her at 11pm and found that she was dilated to 5 cm and was still only 80% effaced. He finally made the decision that he was only going to give her another 2 hours or so for some type of progression before we would have to examine the very real possibility of the dreaded C word.

We tried to keep a positive outlook that little man was going to coming naturally and that the directionally challenged little man was going to figure out where he needed to go.  But it wasn't meant to be...

She was rushed into the OR around 1:15am on Tuesday morning after 40 long hours of labor, Hudson Taylor Hollibaugh was born at 1:47am on June 12, 2012.  He was 8 lbs 0 oz, and measured 20 & 1/4 inches long, and was perfectly healthy little man.  After the C-Section, they were able to determine that the reason for the lack of progression was that the little man was trying to come ear first, yes, ear first.  That obviously was not going to work, and was the very reason that there was no progression after Megan dilated to 5 cm, he just could not push down any further.

He now shares a birthday with his Great-Grandpa Jake, whom is 88 years is senior.  This is my maternal grandfather and has played a large role in my upbringing.  This is very cool and Grandpa Jake will always have a special place in our heart as we are able to celebrate both birthdays concurrently.

Since then things have slowed down on the medical front, and the social aspects of the birth have accelerated exponentially.  Everyone is healthy and thankful that we were blessed with a wonderful medical staff to help us through the intense contractions, difficulty decisions, and lack of sleep.

Thanks for all of the well wishes, thoughts, and prayers, I think we needed everyone one of them.  The miracle of birth never ceases to amaze.  It is just incredible what my Megan is capable of doing. Until next time, possibly never... (I don't plan on being in this situation ever again.)  Si
